TO BE INVISIBLE:

“Bedoon (short for بدون جنسية, meaning ‘without nationality’ in Arabic) are a stateless Arab minority in Kuwait who were not included as citizens at the time of the country’s independence or shortly thereafter”. This thesis aims to create a physical confrontation between Kuwaiti citizens and Bedoon people by means of provoking traditional ideologies in relation to ‘othering’ and ‘selective trust’ in authority. In regards to most issues, Kuwaiti citizens do not hesitate to raise their concerns with government corruption, but seem to turn a blind eye when it has to do with an issue they deem taboo. In this case, Kuwaitis have a hard time accepting the existence of “impoverished Kuwaitis”, making it the easier choice to ‘other’ Bedoon people.
